In Pictures: London basks in warmest spring

Many parts of west London and the UK have continued to bask in wall to wall sunshine throughout the week but weather forecasters have warned it will all fizzle out by this weekend with temperatures reverting to the normal average for this time of the year. Some showers are also expected after long spells of dry weather which has plunged parts of the country into drought.

Last Tuesday marked the official start of spring after a winter of largely mild conditions. Forecasters had predicted the thermometer would hit 20C in London and the south east last Saturday and Sunday, with the rest of the country also seeing warm weather.

London Fire Brigade on alert as three rescued from floods

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is warning people to stay away from 'moving water' after three children in Lewisham were rescued from a river. The capital’s firefighters have also been put on flood alert after the Met Office issued a ‘yellow alert’ severe weather warning and the Environment Agency issued 35 flood alerts for the capital.

On the day a hosepipe ban was announced to cover London and vast swathes of England from 5 April, Simon Cowell gave his Ferrari Spider a much-needed spring- clean. Well, his valet did all the scrubbing and polishing. "Please be quick, he does not like photos being taken", he pleaded as our snapper photographed the gleaming black beauty under glorious Spring sunshine outside the X-Factor impressario's palatial Holland Park home.

Hammersmith Flyover to be ready for Olympics, TfL

Essential repair works to allow the Hammersmith Flyover to be fully reopened to traffic ahead of the London Olympics have now been completed, Transport for London (TfL) announced today. The works, which began in January, have seen around 200m of the central reservation along the flyover removed in preparation for new tensioning cables to be installed which will support the structure.
